A question about whether to recall Willow Burch and Marilyn Nicks from their elected positions as a city councilors of Vernonia, Oregon, in Columbia County took place in a special recall election on August 4th, 2011. Both officials were recalled from their seats. [1] Kevin Hudson, another Vernonia city councilor, was recalled from his seat on June 4th, 2011. [2]

  • Votes to recall Willow Burch: 433 Approveda
  • Votes to retain Willow Burch: 158
  • Votes to recall Marilyn Nicks: 437Approveda
  • Votes to retain Marilyn Nicks: 157

Reasons for recall

Sharon Bernal led the recall effort. The firing of interim City Administrator Bill Haack, the resignation of interim Chief of Police Michael Connor and the firing of police sergeant Michael Kay caused a backlash against Burch and Nicks. [2]
