Race background
According to the Maryland Elections Guide 2012, published by The Baltimore Sun, Maryland "remains an overwhelmingly Democratic state, with only the 1st congressional district as a safe bet for the GOP."[20] The 6th district is Maryland's most contested seat, with incumbent Roscoe Bartlett facing several opponents in the Republican primary.[20]
