Steve Dunn recall, Lakewood School District, Wisconsin (2010)

A vote about whether to recall Steve Dunn from his position as president of the Lakewood School District in Wisconsin took place on April 6, 2010.[1] Dunn was recalled.[2]

  • Votes to retain Steve Dunn: 101
  • Votes to replace Dunn with Kurt Andersen: 222

Dunn had served on the Lakewood School District's board for 15 years.

Recall supporters were unhappy about the increased number of hours Dunn has spent at the school during the school day, as well as being unhappy about Dunn establishing committees that some saw as an end-run around Rebecca Vail, the district's superintendent.[3] Vail announced on March 1 that she is resigning her position as superintendent in the district.[4]

Kenosha County election officials administered the election.

Path to the ballot

Recall supporters were required to collect signatures equal to a set percentage of the number of votes cast for governor by Lakewood School District electors in the last gubernatorial race, or alternatively by using the ratio of school district land area compared to the overall acreage of the municipality applied to the total number of Twin Lakes residents who cast votes for governor to determine the number of signatures needed.

182 signatures were collected. Using the ratio method, 148 signatures were required.[5]
