On September 8, 2011, Bacon announced that he will seek the Iowa House District 48 seat in 2012.[1] Due to redistricting Bacon was drawn into the same district as Bill Dix (R), who was last elected in 2010 and not up for re-election until 2014. Thus, if Bacon had not resigned, Dix would have had to stand for re-election two years before the expiration of his term.[2]
