The New Mexico Secretary of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources is a state executive position in the New Mexico state government.

As head of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department the Secretary is responsible for four goals of the department - make the state a leader in energy development, protect the environment, managing and growing sustainable forests and improving the state park system. [1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is John Bemis. He was appointed by Gov. Susana Martinez in 2011.

Under Section 9-5A-5 of the New Mexico Code, The secretary is appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Senate. [2]

Compensation

In 2010, the New Mexico Secretary of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources was paid an estimated $133,280 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
