The comptroller is responsible for auditing government finances, examining the efficiency of government programs, scrutinizing government contracts, and investigating misconduct, waste and abuse in government.[1]
Current officeholder
The current, and first independent, state comptroller is Matthew Boxer. He was sworn in on January 17, 2008.[2]
Appointments
The state Comptroller is appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate to serve a six year term.[1]
Compensation
In 2010, the New Jersey Comptroller was paid an estimated $141,000 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
