The Commissioner serves as head of the Department of Banking and Insurance which is responsible for regulating the banking, insurance and real estate industries in the state.[1]
Current officeholder
The current officeholder is Thomas Considine. He has served in this position since being named to it by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on January 15, 2010.
Appointments
Per Title 17:1-2 of the New Jersey Statutes, the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance is appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate and serves at the pleasure of the Governor. [2]
Compensation
In 2010, the New Jersey Commissioner of Banking and Insurance was paid an estimated $130,000 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
