The Minnesota Commissioner of Natural Resources is a state executive position in the Minnesota state government. The commissioner serves as administrative and executive head of the Department of Natural Resources.

The office holds authority over public lands and waters, state parks and forests, timber, mineral resources, recreational trails, and wildlife of the state, and their use, sale, leasing, or other disposition.[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Tom Landwehr. He was appointed by Gov. Mark Dayton in 2011.

Appointments

Per 15.06 of the Minnesota Statutes, the governor appoints the Commissioner of Natural Resources with the consent of the Senate. The commissioner serves at the pleasure of the governor. His or her term expires at the end of the governor's term or if the governor vacates office.[2]

Compensation

In 2010, the Minnesota Commissioner of Natural Resources was paid an estimated $108,388 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
