The Minnesota Commissioner of Labor and Industry is a state executive position in the Minnesota state government. The commissioner serves as head of the Department of Labor and Industry, which oversees all issues related to work within the state.

The Department's stated mission is "to ensure Minnesota's work and living environments are equitable, healthy and safe. Its vision is to be a trusted resource and an impartial regulator for employers, employees and property owners."[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Ken Peterson. He was appointed by Gov. Mark Dayton in 2011.

Appointments

Per 15.06 of the Minnesota Statutes, the governor appoints the Commissioner of Labor and Industry with the consent of the Senate. The commissioner serves at the pleasure of the governor. His or her term expires at the end of the governor's term or if the governor vacates office.[2]

Compensation

In 2010, the Minnesota Commissioner of Labor and Industry was paid an estimated $108,388 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
