The Minnesota Commissioner of Insurance is a state executive position in the Minnesota state government housed within the Department of Commerce. The Commissioner's office is tasked with ensuring consumers and industry are treated fairly in regards to all insurance transactions.[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Michael Rothman. He assumed office January 12, 2011.

Appointments

Per 15.06 of the Minnesota Statutes, the governor appoints the Commissioner of Commerce with the consent of the Senate. The commissioner serves at the pleasure of the governor. His or her term expires at the end of the governor's term or if the governor vacates office.[2]

Compensation

In 2010, the Minnesota Commissioner of Insurance was paid an estimated $97,217 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
