A statewide Michigan Sales Tax ballot measure, known as Proposal B was on the November 7, 1989 ballot in Michigan as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment, where it was defeated.
  • Yes: 436,958 (28.1%)
  • No: 1,392,053 (71.9%) Defeatedd

Proposal B would have increased the state's sales tax from 4 cents to 6 cents, reduced school property taxes, set permanent school operating millages subject to voter renewal, and dedicated funds for local schools.
