The Michigan Local Sales Tax Amendment may be on the November 6, 2012 statewide ballot in Michigan as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment. The proposed measure would allow municipalities to impose up to a 4 percent sales tax following voter approval in the municipality. The tax would be in addition to the state's 6 percent sales tax. According to reports, the proposed tax would not be imposed on prescription drugs or most food.^[1]

The bill is sponsored by Sen. Bertram Johnson
