Michael Bowie recall, Lisbon, Maine (2011)
A vote on whether to recall Michael Bowie from his position as Chairman of the Lisbon Town Council in Lisbon, Maine took place on Tuesday, January 4, 2011.[1] Bowie was retained in his seat. Although more voters wanted to recall Bowie than wanted to keep him, an absolute number of 608 votes must be cast in order for a recall election to be deemed operative.
Reasons for recall
The official recall petition stated that Bowie had violated the Lisbon town charter in four ways: by denying town councilors the right to place items on the agenda, by not consulting with all town councilors when dealing with the town manager, by having improper influence and/or conflict of interest regarding use of town funds, and with failure to properly preside over a town council meeting.
