Michael "Mike" Bright is a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 4 of the West Virginia State Senate.

Bright's professional experience includes working as a private investigator at his own firm and as a law enforcement officer. He served in the United States marine corps from 1970 to 1973, seeing deployment to Southeast Asia with Marine Aircraft Group 36.

In 2004, Bright was elected as Sheriff of Jackson County. He has been recognized as "Outstanding Democrat of the Year for Jackson County" in 2005 at the annual Jefferson-Jackson Celebration in Charleston, West Virginia and "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year" in 2007 and 2008 by the West Virginia Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 2010, Bright was awarded the "Public Official of the Year" award by Main Street Ripley in Jackson County.

Bright is running in the 2012 election for West Virginia State Senate, District 4. Bright defeated Marla Dee Ingels in the May 8 primary election and is challenged by Mitch B. Carmichael in the general election which takes place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
