An effort to recall Mary Andersen from her position as a county commissioner in Valencia County was launched in November 2011. [1]

Reasons for recall

Brian Benoit of Los Lunas filed the recall petition. The petition accuses Andersen of abuse of power, conspiracy and ethical violations, among other charges. Benoit says Andersen "acted outside of the course and scope of her duties" when she voted to terminate a hospital contract with Valencia Health Commons.

Path to the ballot

The recall petition was filed on November 16th. Andersen has 30 days to respond to the allegations against her. Recall organizers and Andersen will then appear before a judge, who will determine if there is probable cause for a recall election. If probable cause is established, recall organizers must collect signatures. The recall petition will need to be signed by 1,782 registered voters. [1] If Andersen is removed from office, the governor will fill the vacancy on the county commission.
