Laws governing ballot measures in Louisiana

A two-thirds vote of both chambers of the Louisiana State Legislature is required to place a constitutional amendment on the statewide Louisiana ballot. The resolution proposing the amendment includes a decree about the date of the election upon which the measure will be voted. The legislature can call a special election if it chooses to do so for the purposes of voting on a constitutional amendment.
The proposal ballot measure can only refer to one subject.
In order for a new constitutional amendment to pass, it need only be approved by a simple majority of the voters voting in the election.
