Blust received his Bachelor of Science degree and his law degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in, respectively, 1979 and 1982. He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974 and from 1982 to 1985. He is an accountant and an attorney.
On February 4, 2009, John Blust, Curtis Blackwood, William A. Current, Sr., Timothy K. Moore and Edgar V. Starnes introduced North Carolina House Bill 47 (2009), which would establish ballot initiatives in that state. Under HB 47, initiatives would need the signatures of 20 percent of those who voted in the last gubernatorial election.[1]
If the bill passes, the voters would vote in November 2010 on whether they want the initiative.
