Ike Stage recall, Grove City, Ohio (2010)

An effort to recall Ike Stage from his position as Mayor of Grove City, Ohio, was launched in April 2010. Stage, at the time, was in the 3rd year of a 4-year term as mayor. However, the recall effort was ultimately abandoned short of a vote, and as of January 2011, Ike Stage is still the mayor of Grove City.

Grove City resident Terry Jones, the founder of South Western Alternatives to Taxes, was a leader with the recall effort. Jones said that Stage's support for an increased South-Western City School District tax levy is one reason for the recall.

$25,000 in tax revenue from hotel bed taxes collected in Grove City was spent by Mayor Stage to promote a "yes" vote on recent school tax levies, according to Jones.

Path to the ballot

According to Grove City's city charter, if 25% of the number of people who voted in a given race sign a recall petition, the recall initiative will be placed on the ballot. The number of required signatures is 1,701.
