Ike Stage recall, Grove City, Ohio (2010)
An effort to recall Ike Stage from his position as Mayor of Grove City, Ohio, was launched in April 2010.[1] Stage, at the time, was in the 3rd year of a 4-year term as mayor. However, the recall effort was ultimately abandoned short of a vote, and as of January 2011, Ike Stage is still the mayor of Grove City.
Grove City resident Terry Jones, the founder of South Western Alternatives to Taxes, was a leader with the recall effort. Jones said that Stage's support for an increased South-Western City School District tax levy is one reason for the recall.[1]
$25,000 in tax revenue from hotel bed taxes collected in Grove City was spent by Mayor Stage to promote a "yes" vote on recent school tax levies, according to Jones.
Path to the ballot
According to Grove City's city charter, if 25% of the number of people who voted in a given race sign a recall petition, the recall initiative will be placed on the ballot. The number of required signatures is 1,701.
