A 2003 effort to recall Mayor Huey Dean of Homer failed after falling short of the signature requirement.

After much political and legal maneuvering, the petition was officially ruled short on signatures, and the effort failed to put the recall question on the ballot.

The effort appealed twice for signatures to be counted that were originally thrown out as invalid.
