An effort to recall Eileen Miranda Jimenez from her position on the school board of the West Covina Unified School District was launched in June 2011.[1] The recall effort was abandoned. [2]

Recall supporters

Cynthia Esquivel is a recall organizer. She says, "This board is just out of control."

One board action Esquivel and others object to is the firing of former West Covina Unified superintendent Liliam Leis Castillo. Jimenez is one of the board members who voted to fire Castillo.[1] Board members Mike Spence and Steve Cox also voted to fire Castillo, but their board terms are up in November 2011 and as a result, the recall organizers saw no need to specifically target them for a recall.

Path to the ballot

Recall organizers had until August 12 to collect the approximately 6,000 signatures that were required to qualify the recall for the November 8, 2011 ballot.
