Democratic candidates in
Kentucky's 2011 elections have a commanding fundraising lead in four of six major state executive races, according to Kentucky Registry of Election Finance.
Out of the contests Ballotpedia this election season, two saw a Republican raise more than his Democratic rival, while in two prominent races -- for Governor of Kentucky and Kentucky Secretary of State -- the Democrat candidates take a dominating financial lead.[1] Incumbent Governor Steve Beshear has outraised his opponent David Williams by almost 5-to-1, while in the race for secretary of state, Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes has brought in a whopping 17 times more than her Republican opponent, Bill Johnson.
In one of the races where a Republican holds a fundraising end -- the contest for Kentucky Attorney General -- the most recent numbers suggest the Democrat might gain the advantage. Though Republican Todd P'Pool has outraised Democrat Jack Conway by $200,000 with the help of a $150,000 personal loan to his campaign, Conway ended the primary season's last reporting period by raking in $118,855 to P'Pool's $20,705. Though Conway still lags behind in cash on hand, continued strong fundraising could see that disadvantage evaporate.[2]
One down-ballot race, for state treasurer, has seen both parties' candidates bring in roughly equal amounts; Democrat incumbent Todd Hollenbach and Republican challenger K.C. Crosbie have both raised about $75,000, though Crosbie enters the general election season with a considerable advantage in cash on hand. And in only one race, for agriculture commissioner, has a Republican taken a commanding lead.
