Current officeholder
The current comptroller is Kevin Lembo, a Democrat, who was first elected in November 2010 and took office on January 5, 2011. Lembo will next come up for re-election, if he chooses to run, in 2014.
Before becoming comptroller, served as Connecticut's first Healthcare Advocate from 2004 to 2010. He was also chair of the state's health care reform effort, SustiNet. Before coming to Connecticut, he worked to develop a long-term home health care program in northeastern New York and was program director of an AIDS education, prevention and care program at a community health center. As comptroller, Lembo has maintained a position as a clinical instructor at the Yale School of Nursing.
He holds a M.P.A. from California State University and resides with his wife and three children in Guilford, CT.
Authority
The office of comptroller is established in Article IV of the state constitution.

Qualifications
There are no particular qualifications required of the comptroller.
Elections
Comptrollers are elected every four years in federal midterm election years (2006, 2010, 2014, etc.) and take office on the first Wednesday after the first Monday in the January following their election.[1]

Term limits
Connecticut state executive officers, including the comptroller, do not face term limits
Vacancies
If the office of comptroller becomes vacant, the state legislature jointly appoints a replacement; if the legislature is out of session the governor fills the vacancy.[2]

Duties
The comptroller is charged by Article IV, Section 24 of the Connecticut Constitution with "adjust[ing] and settl[ing] all public accounts and demands, except grants and orders of the general assembly." Additionally, he is directed to "prescribe the mode of keeping and rendering all public accounts."
In practice, the comptroller manages the state's centralized accounts payable system, performs financial accounting for state agencies and major programs, and establishes accounting standards for state programs.

Compensation
In 2010, the comptroller received compensation in the amount of $126,540.[3] The comptroller's salary is established by law.
