The Connecticut Comptroller is an elected statewide executive officer in the Connecticut state government. The comptroller manages the state's accounts payable, performs cost accounting and financial reporting of the state government's activities, and monitors the compliance of other state agencies with accounting procedures.

Current officeholder

The current comptroller is Kevin Lembo, a Democrat, who was first elected in November 2010 and took office on January 5, 2011. Lembo will next come up for re-election, if he chooses to run, in 2014.

Before becoming comptroller, served as Connecticut's first Healthcare Advocate from 2004 to 2010. He was also chair of the state's health care reform effort, SustiNet. Before coming to Connecticut, he worked to develop a long-term home health care program in northeastern New York and was program director of an AIDS education, prevention and care program at a community health center. As comptroller, Lembo has maintained a position as a clinical instructor at the Yale School of Nursing.

He holds a M.P.A. from California State University and resides with his wife and three children in Guilford, CT.

Duties

The comptroller is charged by Article IV, Section 24 of the Connecticut Constitution with "adjust[ing] and settl[ing] all public accounts and demands, except grants and orders of the general assembly."
