The effort needed to submit 1,165 valid signatures in order to force a recall election. According to reports, the recall effort turned in those signatures by October 14, 2011, leaving officials to schedule an election. At the time, Sutter stated he he would not resign, commenting: ""I'm doing a good job, and I'm working every day at it. And I'm going to continue to work at it until somebody tells me differently."[2]
The recall election was held on December 20, 2011. Voters recalled Sutter.
