Barry Bruce and Mike Gomez recalls, Hawaiian Gardens, California (2010)
From Ballotpedia
Two separate campaigns targeting two politically diverse members of the Hawaiian Gardens, California, city council were launched in August 2010.However, as of February 2011, both recall efforts appear to have been abandoned.
City council member Mike Gomez, who is part of a 3-2 majority on the council that includes Mayor Victor Farfan and Mayor Pro Tem Michiko Oyama-Canada, is targeted for recall. The Gomez recall appears to be related to his vote to approve building an $8-million sports complex at Fedde Middle School. Hawaiian Gardens has an annual budget of $2.5 million.[1]
City council member Barry Bruce, one of the newest members of the city council, is part of a 2-3 minority on the city council that regularly questions what they view as wasteful city spending. He has been targeted for recall, evidently by city residents who believe that Bruce is behind the Gomez recall. One Bruce opponent said, "A line in the sand has been drawn, and you, sir, are on the wrong side."[2]
