Alabama Hale County Tax Amendment (2012)

The Alabama Hale County Tax Amendment will appear on a 2011 special election ballot in Hale County, Alabama as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved. One measure would allow allow for funds that are collected from an ad valorem tax for the county jail to be deposited in the county general fund. The revenue would then be used for law enforcement purposes, according to the text of the measure. The measure was introduced by State Representative Ralph Anthony Howard. The formal title of the proposal is House Bill 148.[1]The other measure would do the same, however, it to repeal Act 2011-256 of the 2011 Regular Session.

Path to the ballot
Article XVIII of the Alabama Constitution says that it takes a three-fifths (60%) vote of the Alabama State Legislature to qualify an amendment for the ballot.
